Three Bridges Road

Originally Worth Lane, Three Bridges Road was renamed Haslett Avenue for part of it's length in 1958. Dame Caroline Haslett was a member of Crawley Development Corporation. The road was very narrow at the junction with the High Street, and at the same time two rows of shops were demolished to widen the road and create a roundabout.

These two detached houses were demolished in 1956 and the grounds became a car park backing on to the stores of Queens Square. A new row of shops, including Gamley's, Mothercare and C & A, were later built here.
Memorial Gardens
In 1921, the local community raised funds to buy land for the Memorial Gardens, for use as a public recreation ground and in memory of those who lost their lives during the Great War. It is now held in Trust by Crawley Borough Council. Crawley Parish Council erected panels listing the dead of both World Wars at the entrance to the gardens. The cost of £140 was to be raised from donations, as no public funds were available.
